Hunat Sugbo 4

Hunat Sugbo 4
June 22, 2014
21k 3:16
Park Mall 4:30

I'm in a good mood today because Hunat Sugbo 4 was a great run for me, one of the best. It was my first 21k in Mandaue-Talamban area, and my time was returned to normal 3 hours and 16 minutes. Way better than last weeks DYAP Kapamilya run.
Anyway, let me start on saturday. It was my second day  of menstruation. It was dark and gloomy and it rained late afternoon. I felt so lazy that day  ( a side effect of menstruation) that I didnt go to work. I was just sleeping in my room then went out after 2:00 pm to withdraw some cash and paid VECO at SM. I also stopped by JY square to buy  a 6-galloon bottled water and dropped it at my work place.
Saturday night, the rain finally stopped. But I had a hard time falling asleep because of the disco music playing.  There's a fiesta party going on near our place.
Sunday 4:00 am. Arrived at  Park Mall at Mandaue City. Taxi fare was P138.00. I immediately looked for a place to sit to prepare my gear. After that,I was looking for the courtesy booth, Unfortunately, no one was manning the booth. A waited nearby, after 10 minutes, I was surprised to see the number of runners lining up to leave their stuff. The people in th booth  were very slow in accepting the bags...tsk tsk...Sorry to the other runners, I just went ahead and asked for my backpack to be accepted. I was already 10 minutes before the  guntime. I wasnt even able to join the warm up. When we were at the starting area, I noticed a lot of runners. Wow! what a great turnout even with 2 runs in one sunday.
I was so happy to hear the gun start, so many of us running together. For sure,  I wasnt gonna be the last finisher. About 20 minutes during the run, one of my blinkers stopped blinking,  ugghhh the batteries are dead..oh well. The weather was great, not perfect, but great. It was cloudy, no sun till past 7 a.m. Our turning poing was Angelicum cemetery, near Sacred Heart School. It was a nice place, cool and very peaceful. There were cool treats waiting for us there..cold drinks, fruits ( watermelon, papaya, mangoes and bananas)..heaven for runners..They also have cold foams...I just wanted to lie on the grass and sleep...but I cant afford to eat long...so off I go, back to park mall, via  cabancalan road again. When we were about 5 km to the finish line, the sun was already coming out. I tried to hurry  since I'm weak when it comes to the heat..I guess most runners are...3k,   2k...finally 1k.. I'm so relieved to see Park Mall again.. First thing I was looking for was food...And there was still  a lot left... Amazing...I thought they would run out of food like the last time.. Meal consists of 1 puso, 1 boiled egg, 1 fried chicken with saw saw and 1 juice.. I looked for a table then ate everything i have. I was so hungry....they even had cold water for us..this race is almost perfect..They were starting to award the prizes so I stuck around, got my backpack (not the last one this time) then took some pics.I love this run, If all runs are like Hunat Sugbo 4, I wouldnt mind running 21k every sunday.
Some pics:

Thanks to Manong for this. Wala nakuha ang sign sa ibabaw

Congrats Hunat Sugbo! Thanks for a great run and a great meal. Hope there still Hunat Sugbo 5 next year. Thanks to that guy from SAFE who took a pic of me.

Addendum:
Experienced some pain in my chest..This was after the race. I noticed this first in puerto princesa, when i twisted my body to get a bathroom tissue. Then from time to time i experience tightness in the chest area. During the PUJ ride going to SM, i twisted my body again, thats when the pain at my right chest struck again..Yup the one where the breast was removed. It felt like having cramps...It was tolerable, i just had to stop, breath deeply and wait for the pain to subside.

A fun Run on Fathers Day

DYAB Kapamilya Run
June 15, 2014 Ayala Terraces
21k 3:36:40

First of all, Happy Fathers Day to my dad who passed away years ago. He wasnt a runner but he rides a bicycle to work everyday. I also want to motivate myself for this run because I'm feeling lazy again. I have a cold that comes and goes and a cough that will probably never go away. Ugghh I hate being sick.  I will be running for Hunat Sugbo 4 so I'm preparing for it with this run.

First of all,my time is the worst of all my 21k. My time in Run for the Rivers last June 2013, my first 21k, was better than this. Well, at least I wasnt the last finisher. This is my third year in running, and i'ver run about 6 21k's and my time still pathetic. I guess I will have to accept the fact that I will never improve. To  continue, when I arrived at ayala terraces they were already dismantling and moving their stuff. I had to beg 1 guy to give me snacks, I was famished during the last 15k. The chocolate bar I brought wasnt enough.Ang it was so hot. grabee... Another comment, the lady working at the courtesy booth is so mataray.  She used a safety pin on my medyo expensive backpack for the bag number. My heart hurt the moment she pushed the pin.
For the 5 people behind me, I really hope you didnt get lost and that you finished the run.

To SAFE/ organizers to fun runs: Please wait for the slow runners like me. Dont remove the signages and directional signs. I made a wrong turn at the cebu business park and there were no marshalls around. I had to ask manong guard with the scary dog at a nearby building.
Also, for 21k distances, I would appreciate it if you offer chocolates or bananas. It would really help us give energy for the run. My last 21k will be next week, I will probably be lying low for July, but i'll still be road running.

Observation:  I see fewer runners joining fun runs. There will be 2 fun runs next week, i hope and pray more people will join Hunat Sugbo.
Single, race big & medal...No. 8 again

kapamilya finishers medal..hmmm looks familiar, No date or year tsk sk
Promise to myself. I will run next years SM 2 SM's 21k. Pass muna sa Cebu city marathon.

GACPA ANC 2014

I passed the CPA Board exams last 1996, but sad to say this is the second time I attended a GACPA Convention. This will probably be my last, depends on the  location and budget. I can give  lots of excuses, number 1 is I'm scared to travel alone. I have a very poor sense of direction. Well after my surgery, and frequent travels to UP Diliman, I am trying to overcome that. Thank God for Google. I'm trying to turn the scared feelings to excitement for the unknown. Anyway, to document my GACPA convention last May 21-24, I'm posting  some pics so I can look back whenever I decide to stop attending these conventions.

Eye Run

Eye Run organized by Run For Sight
June 8 2014  16 K
5:00 pm Cebu Doctors Old Gym
2:45

I joined this run in preparation for 21K Hunat Sugbo. My last 21k was way back in January for Cebu City Marathon. I watched The fault in our Stars last Saturday (after accompanying my mom to the dentist for a tooth extraction), and it was great. I recommend it to all readers and non readers. They did change some stuff and deleted a few characters, but overall it was great. Thanks to Shailene and Ansel. Watch out for Nat Wolff who plays Isaac, he did great here. Unfortunately, the disadvantage of  of crying over a tearjerker movie is you get a headache, not Good. I really wasnt in the mood to run. But as usual, I just forced my body to move.

I'm kinda disappointed with the turnout, there was only a few runners... Whats going on with the running community? Its already June, so much runs during this month.

It was a hot day, but slowly and surely I persevered. I wasnt the last finisher, but my backpack was the last one left in the baggage counter. They keep calling my number so I can claim it already...grrr They ran out of freebies btw and no snack. Well I guess they ran out since I dont see anyone giving out snacks so I just went to jolibee. makes me have second thoughts of running for Run for Sight..hmmm

Not sure yet if i will join DYAB's kapamilya run on June 15. I will decide this June 12

Too lazy to post updates

Hooboy, this is a side effect or after effect of my injury. Now I'm getting lazy updating this blog.

The Good News is I did go back to running and I am completely healed. I am scared of the rain or running while raining.  I have to search through my stuff to remember the runs I registered. I did  a 10k last March 30 for Summer Run at Banawa. After that, I did 2 more runs, dont remember it now. I do have 2 runs this June. Eye Run and Hunat Sugbo 4. I'm still thinking about the DYAB Kapamilya Run. The rain has come back this June and I have a recurring cough & colds.

update June 8 2014

finally remembered my 2 other runs. Unfortunately, I forgot the time,

Takbo Para sa Kalikasan April 27  2014  10k Plaza Independencia
7th Mayors Cup May 4 2014  15k Park Mall

The takbo para sa kalikasan was just so so. I did find out that they made some improvements at SRP. Planted some trees, nice landscaping. I think they call it SRP Baywalk now.Try to visit the area, a nice place to jog.

I had fun at 7th Mayors Cup, this was my preparation for the Hunat Sugbo 4 which will be held in Mandaue. I'm kinda scared to run in mandaue since I'm not familiar with the place, There were lots of road excavations and improvements over there. Hope they have already finished it.

Tales of an injured slow runner

Its been over a month since Jan. 12, I'm still not 100% completely healed. I missed 2 runs, UP High and Cebu Holdings. My plan to try the 42k has gone pfft, I may have to start at the beginning. This is what happened after Jan. 12

  • took a rest for almost two weeks then tried to run at the Cebu City Sports center for 5-10 laps. It was painful run. Bad idea.
  • I decided to apply ice for the next week then applied liniment and used elastic bandage. I also bought some ankle supports.
  • Unfortunately I was ordered to fly to Manila to attend a meeting. After running at the airport because we were late, the pain got worse.
  • After more than a week of using ice, I decided to use hot water. I felt temporary relief aftewards.
  • I registered for the Rose Pharmacy Run and SM2SM run. Then I had another 1 day trip to manila.
  • On Feb 10, I decided to have hilot sessions. I was kinda desperate, I really want to run at SM. First session – I felt relief but the pain was still there. After the second session, pain is starting to lessen. By Feb 13, I decided to walk/run at Cebu City Sports Center Again. I felt much better but my running form is a bit unbalanced and awkward. I am now a believer of the hilot.
  • Ran at SM to SM 12 on Feb 16. Time was 2 hours 13 minutes. It was an awkward slow run, its obvious to everyone I was injured. But I finished the race, thats whats important.
  • Just finished Rose Pharmacy run (2-22-14) 5 k @ 50 minutes 40 sec. I was having a harder time with the run, but after the turnabout point, the run was easier. But something bad happened when I took a ride on a PUJ. My toes on my right foot hit the metal support seat, now its throbbing with pain. Yup, I am injured again. I am now taking a rest for the the long weekend. I'm also taking it easy with the runs, I may run once a week. The next interesting run is in June so I have lots of time to train after I am healed.
  • Except for the bruised toes, I feel only minimal pain. The problem it that, my right ankle is weak thats why its still awkward for me to run. I also have a limp when my right foot is tired. Oh well, time heals all wounds. I hate being injured.

I decided to stop running for now

Its over a week since cebu city marathon, still my right leg still hurts. I still walk with a limp.
The time is  almost 4:00 am, 21 Jan 2014, I finally made my decision. I have to give my running legs a rest for a while. I googled online, my condition  may be calf sprain, its a minor injury, only needs RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevate). But as long as there's pain, its not advisable to run. I will recover but the injury will likely to happen again. There goes my plan for 42k. I am not  a suicide runner, I am a cautious runner thats why I'm so frustrated with this injury. But this is normal for runners. I do want to walk normally till I'm a hundred years old. I'm sad coz I have to give up the upcoming runs.  I'm sad coz I will probably gain back the weight that I lost.  I'm sad coz I've spent money on the future runs. I'f I heal, I may have to start all over again. Oh well, I'll just count my blessings. I have more time to focus on work. And I will run again.
